Fiber Optics

What is the difference between traditional cable and fiber optic line?

Transmitted with flashes of light through strands of glass, fiber-optic internet is the most advanced broadband technology available. Because data can travel faster across greater distances with glass than with cable, the connection speed is much faster with a 100% fiber-optic network.

Fiber optic cables are generally better than copper cables for a number of reasons, including:

  • Speed
  • Fiber optic cables are faster than copper cables because they use light to transmit signals, which travel farther and faster than electrical pulses.
  • Bandwidth
  • Fiber optic cables can support higher bandwidths than copper cables of the same diameter.
  • Reliability
  • Fiber optic cables are more reliable than copper cables because they are stronger and less susceptible to weather damage.
  • Security
  • Fiber optic cables are more secure than copper cables because they use light signals instead of electrical ones, making them more difficult to tap into.
  • Durability
  • Fiber optic cables are more durable than copper cables because they are made from glass or plastic, which are naturally durable.

Other advantages of fiber optic cables include:

  • Lower attenuation and interference
  • Longer transmission distances
  • Immune to electromagnetic interference

  • Lighter and smaller than copper wires
  • Symmetrical bandwidth, enabling faster and equal download and upload speeds

We use our new Sumitomo Electric Core Alignment fusion splicer to precisely fuse each fiber strand together, and providing a test result indicating the most precise dB loss. The integrated heat shrink oven seals the splice in under 30 seconds, allowing us to move on to the next splice promptly. We take pride in offering this service, as it reduces material costs and installation times, ultimately delivering significant value to our clients.
